Today was the "Maroon Effect" day, and everyone was asked to wear something to honor those lost at Tech. Just driving around town today i saw A LOT of people out there that were either sporting orange or burgundy in some way. Either on their car or wearing some sort of ribbon or clothing. The one thing that i did notice is, I don't think people ( at least most) are doing this to get attention or to fit in. I know right after 911 you weren't "Patriotic" if you didn't have an American Flag on your car, but i think most people had no connection to the fact that hundreds of people died that day, they were just slapping a USA sticker on the car to be like the guy they parked next to at the mall. I don't feel that this is the same thing. There is something different about the support for tech. Maybe b/c its a college that was in my state, or maybe b/c half my friends either went there or had friends or family that did or still do. Something just feels different about all this to me. It's like people actually care... could that be? Somewhere deep down do the people of Va. actually have a caring bone in them.
I have ranted a lot ... A LOT, about people that live in this state. Maybe there is a glimmer of hope, if we can all pull together and get behind the families that were involved in this event, maybe there is hope for us all...
Yeah i'm getting kinda mushy about this but i just keep thinking that if it had happened like a couple of years ago i might have lost some of my very close friends. That to me is very scary. Anyway i thought i needed to say something about all this in my own words.
To all the families of all the victims involved, you truly are in our hearts and prayers. I hope that everyone out there will never forget this week, and remember everyone that was slain in the best of ways, b/c im sure that is the way they would want to be remembered.

I know what you mean. Heck, here in St. Louis we had people wearing VT hats and caps and bumper stickers, and it's not like you can walk into any old store and get that kind of stuff here in the midwest, unlike Old Glory.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all you guys in Virginia.
